NYC from the Grande Caribe...

Hello again. I hope to catch up on my blogging now that we have 3 officers back aboard the Grande Caribe. The watch schedule might allow for at least a little time to blog.

We are underway for the 2009 Fall Cruise season and a great start it is. Departed Warren, RI and Narraganset Bay for a beautiful sunset cruise down the coast to NYC. The weather was PERFECT. Light swells and a light breeze allowed for fantastic visibility as we cruised through the night down Long Island Sound. We arrived at daybreak to cruise the East River into NYC! Circled the Statute of Liberty at 0700 with Kate Smith's God Bless America playing on the PA system on board. This always sends a tingle up my spine.

This cruise is for an ELDERHOSTEL group of active seniors and already they are demonstrating a great deal of interest and curiosity about not only the history of places we will visit, but also navigation and shipboard operations. Several were up during the night to chat with me in the wheelhouse at 3 and 4 am!

We are enjoying a beautiful day here in NYC while docked at Chelsea Piers a great place to stop and enjoy the city from. They have the afternoon "off" to sight see on their own and the Captain's "welcome aboard" dinner & cocktail party is tonight.

Good food, great weather, nice people... Nice.

More later.
